Carl Jung recognized the Subconscious in what –in the Medieval Times– used to be called as “prima materia”, the enigmatic primal matter which the Alchemists were attempting to transmute into gold. For Jung, the whole of the alchemical tradition was nothing more than a metaphor of each Alchemist’s personal process in their quest for a spiritual and philosophical transformation.
The performance Prima Materia is inspired by the alchemical tradition and attempts to explore the dark landscape of (personal) Power, in the search for a new pathway to gold. With Baroque’s palpable beauty as our guide, we are introduced into a choreographed game of transformations which creates a queered landscape of eery entities that meet with the particular primae materiae of each member of the audience.
