LYRICISM

What if objects only existed through the gaze we bestow on them? Manolis Tsipos invites us to perceive their resonance, explore their representations and open ourselves to their aura. With lyricism, this aesthetically and conceptually fascinating artist has seized upon Swan Lake and other classic choreographic objects, somewhere between a ready-made aesthetic and Tupperware culture.

"[...] I saw Manolis Tsipos´ performance Lyricism in the context of the Frascati programme Nieuw Werk this past March (2016). I was very taken with the work because of its smart interplay between the lyrical and the banal, the holy and the humdrum, the transcendent and the tacky. It´s a riotous meeting between Tchaikovsky and Tupperware, a constantly surprising wedding of art and kitsch. In bringing all these elements and styles together, Tsipos manages to humourously question the boundaries of good taste, and the kinship between transcendence and sentimentality."
